I believe in Marriage Equality because it is ridiculous that folks who are the same gender as each other cannot get married but folks who are not the same gender as each other can. Sound arbitrary? It does to me! This is a basic right that all should have. And the time is now!

I am a married heterosexual and a friend of MERI. Marriage is very important to me. When my husband and I were conferring with our minister before our wedding and were asked why we wanted to be married and not just live together (he was playing the devil's advocate), I said because marriage was society's way of explaining the full meaning of our relationship to everyone we would come in contact with, in just two words - "we're married". I think it the interconnectedness of our society would be greatly strengthened if homosexual couples could use the exact same word to define their relationship.

I believe in Marriage Equality. Any couple willing to commit to each other, as my wife and I did and do, should have the same benefits, both tangible and intangible, that we have shared. It seems so obvious to me that this is a civil rights issue.
