Friends & Neighbors

Marriage Equality Rhode Island believes that individual images and testimonies are some of the strongest tools we have to win equal marriage. MERI Friends & Neighbors is our initiative to collect photos and statements in support of marriage equality from our constituents and allies. This goes beyond a simple petition: we want to show the real people behind our cause, as part of our mission to move the hearts and minds of our elected representatives and fellow citizens alike.

I believe in Marriage Equality because Bill and I have been together for 20 years. In 2007 we got Married at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. We discussed it and felt it was time to tie the knot. We had a house built in 2000 in Cumberland. Don't you think it is silly? We are legaly reconized in the W H O L E country of Canada and the state of Massachusetts (witch we can see from our front porch BUT NOT ON IT. We love each other deeply and want to be together till death do us part. Every one I know in Rhode Island is happy for us. WHY CAN"T THE GOVERNMENT BE?

I believe in Marriage Equality because it is grotesquely unconstitutional to deny any adult of sound mind to enter into a contract. It is not the business nor the authority of the state to make decisions regarding the union of two people in love and the future of their family. I believe we ALL should remain "dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal"

I believe in Marriage Equality because all people are created equal, and therefore entitled to the same rights. We fall in love with a person, not their chromosomes. The law should understand that!

I believe in Marriage Equality because I believe everyone deserves to be treated fairly and with equality. Thomas Jefferson's words that all men are created equal and are endowed with certain inalienable rights set a standard for our country that demands to be upheld.
